First off I would just like to say to the SOPHISTICATE....how snobby are you, some people live in areas that are too far to be able to see the stage production....how dare you imply that you are better than others.... Secondly, to the person who said that the Phantom never threatened to kill Raoul, uh...I think you need to listen to the last 15 minutes of the play again, of course he does, that is the whole climax at the end!!! That said, this movie was very well done, I was aprehensive since the stage production is my absolute favourite show of all time and I was afraid the movie would not do it justice but I got those same chills.....well

An extraordinary movie musical. It stayed true to the original stage show and the movie is brilliantly done. The cast does a great job with the material and Emmy Rossum gives an Oscar calibre performance. Sumptuous sets, colourful costumes, an attractive cast and glorious music. This is a perfect musical film and the millions of fans will not be disappointed.

Having seen the show 3 times in Toronto before production was stopped, the most memorable of times being the last 2 when Paul Stanley of KISS fame was playing the Phantom role, I must say, the movie blew me away! Butler was stunning as Phantom, evoking just the right amount of sensuality and pathos, and his voice was divine! I own the original London cast recording, but Michael Crawford is a bit too wooden for my tastes. Butler was perfect for the role, bringing emotion to the songs that had moved me before. I had chills. I cried... and I can`t wait for this one to come out on DVD!

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! Such a terrific portrayal. I am pleased that it stayed true to the stage version of the musical. I hope everyone goes to see it because it is so magical and passionate. I had chills those whole time. It is a must! I give it 5 stars!

Loved it, I have returned to see this film three times within a fortnight (have never revisited a film previously) with various friends/relatives and would quite happily do so again. The singing is superb, excellent choice of Gerard Butler in his role as the Phantom, his portrayal really touched me. As a whole this film is spectacular and unfogettable (literally haunting).

I`ve been a Phantom fan for years...the music, live performance, etc. I was hesitant when I found out there would be a movie...Well, I`ve seen it now twice, purchased the CD, and am thinking about going again. VERY WELL DONE! One of the best movies I`ve seen. I haven`t witnessed people in the theatre so mesmerized in years by the time it was over! Hat`s off to all who played part in the movie!

Despite critic reviews, I`ve found Gerard Butler as the Phantom quite appealing and refreshing. He added so much more pizzaz than I`m sure many if any actors could. As a movie-goer, I expect and hope that Butler wins an Oscar for this heart-wrenching performance. Very well done, 5 stars!
