Rarely can it be said that a leading actor can be so misscast - yet not affect the film he stars in detrimentally... But if ever there was a `perfect` example - this would be it. Having read all the `raveing` reviews on this Site, let me remind the authors that the visage of the Phantom was not that of a `beautiful` person - such as that portrayed by Butler... No, The Phantom`s true beauty rather lay in the gripping power of his voice... Indeed the Opera makes no sense (for those who bother to listen to the words) if his visage is appealing and outwardly dripping with sex apeal... Butler - who although can sing far better than 9/10`

Schumacher is an astounding director, but he proved that years ago with Batman Forever and 8MM. This is just more Glory to add to his mantlepiece.

This movie was beautifully filmed, with intense dramatic music and excellent showing of the classic. It kept the beauty of the original story.

Excellent movie! I was happy to see that though they basically filmed the play, at least as far as the staging and script are concerned, they didn`t forget that it was a movie that they were making...superbley filmed! I find it interesting that most people loved Gerard Butler as the Phantom, and those who didn`t made excuses for him and the casting director. I have to disagree. He was TERRIBLE! The acting was good, but since most of the dialogue was cut from the original script, the ability of the cast to sing is primary (or it should have been). Take Mini Driver, for example. There was an excellent job of casting: good acting skills, rig
