    I saw the theatre version with Michael Crawford in London (lucky me) and Anthony Warlow in Australia (even luckier), so POTO had become a musical favourite of mine, and I was looking forward to seeing the movie, albeit with some minor apprehension that it would not measure up to the theatre version, and minor curiosity as to who would have the parts. I finally saw the movie about a decade after I first saw the show in the theatre, and I was absolutely blown away from the moment that chandelier was hoisted up to a spine tingling orchestral opening.     In the early 90`s I was privileged to see Michael Crawford`s live performance in POTO. Having been a fan of all things "Phantom" from the first time I saw the classic with Lon Chaney...I was unprepared for the impact the stage production would have on me. The music and visuals wound around my heart, leaving me breathless as Michael pulled in every audience member with his controlled, sensual, and hypnotic portrayal. When talk arose about the film version, I could not imagine who could ever hope to fill Michael`s mask...or who would have the guts to reinvent the iconic figure Crawford created.     This was the first phantom of the opera that i had ever seen, and it was amazing!!! I can`t stop thinking about it, it has been a month and i`m still singing the songs. I had never heard of gerard butler before the phantom, he was amazing and handsome, I think that we`ll all be hearing more of him soon!!
