I give it 5-stars because unlike what people are saying about the "cookie-cutter" story, I believe they completely ignored the first 20-30mins (or even hour) of the movie. Every character started out relatively even-keeled, there was no black'n'white good or bad until the story started to unfold. IMAX 3D is a must.

I had only seen 20 seconds of one of the ads on tv and thought it would be some kind of silly kid movie with awesome sci-fi elements (ships and weapons, and such) thrown on. I didn't even know who directed it. I wasn't at all hyped to go see this movie; but a friend talked me into going just the same... ...and I do not regret this one little bit! Avatar is the best all-round movie I have ever seen - period. All the 3D and flashy technology is firmly set in a way that only supports teh telling of a great story. As for the story: a silly kids story, it is not!

5/5 - Masterpiece on all levels. On a scale not seen before. Believe the "hype" - it lives up to it on every level. A must see. You are drawn in and the movie never lets you go.

Technically, it is an amazing movie that sets new standards in movie making methodology. It is very spectacular to watch. On the surface the storylin follows a classic peace loving good guys vs warmonger bad guys theme in a futuristic setting with various novel nuances. On a deeper level, the underlying message is the glorification gaia worshipping environmental paganism. It definitely does not have the weighty undertones that go along with the great fantasy classics such as LOTR and the Chronicles of Narnia. If the story had true depth, I would have given it 5 stars. As long as you are looking for stimulation and enterntainment (rather than deep meanings), you will thoroughly enjoy t

Cameron has done it again! One of the most immersive movies you will see....not just special effects, but characters you care about and a good, thought-provoking story. Movie making at its best!!!!
