Americans Louise (Mackenzie Davis) and her husband Ben (Scoot McNairy) and daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) meet British couple Patrick (James McAvoy), his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosa) and their young son, who doesn't seem to be able to talk. The families get along well, and Patrick extends an invitation to the Americans to visit them for a weekend at their home.
When Louise, Ben and Agnes make the journey to the sprawling estate where Patrick and Ciara live, they notice how secluded it is, with no neighboring homes in sight. The Americans soon get an uneasy feeling about Patrick, who bullies his son. They discover that the boy has had his tongue cut out. Louise wants to leave early, but Patrick won't hear of it.
Based on the screenplay of the 2022 Danish horror film Gæsterne, which earned 11 Danish Film Awards nominations, the Danish equivalent of the Oscars.
