82/100 A reporter's social disgrace for libel, rape and revenge, the investigation of serial killings going back to the 40's, all centered around a girl's disappearance in 1966. Made in Sweden two years earlier than the U.S. version, this is the first in the Lisbeth trilogy ...the other 2 films made at the same time and coming out later in 2009. Both versions place their story emphasis on different parts making each a unique take on the same story and outcome. Not as intense and well constructed as the U.S. version (which is well suited as a stand-alone film), this one still manages to hold up quite well as the start of the trilogy and features an excellent performances by Noomi Rapace. -- DrNostromo.com
I walked out 50 minutes in. This topic should not get the "hollywood" treatment. Don't put flowers on a pile of s..., keep it as serious.
Not my cup of tea.
Excellent action movie. Only 6 people in the theater. If people don't smarten up and go see these movies I doubt there will be any new movies at theaters. I can say the same about The Running Man
I was super impressed with Contamination! I got to see it over the weekend with my family. It was cool to see locations that I have been to in real life like the airport. I really like that it had some funny jokes. I am gonna ask my friends to go see it too!
In 2010, Julie and her husband, Brogan de Paor, started the Los Angeles Activist Video Archive, filming long-form oral histories with LA-based activists. I Write Your Name features archival footage spanning geographies and time, showcasing how art and culture play influential roles in movements for human rights and justice. "Francisco's personal story is a microcosm of a larger movement for human rights, and his art is a testament to the enduring human spirit," said Julie Thompson. "We believe the film will resonate with audiences who are thinking about how art inspires change." "Telling this story is particularly urgent given the rise of political polarization globally," added Brogan de Paor. "His message—of healing through remembrance, action, and imagination, even when it's difficult—can guide us as we move into a time of resistance to authoritarian regimes. 'At a time when immigrants and others around the world and within the United States defend human rights and are subject to political violence, culture and imagination are an unshakable form of resistance.' Francisco Letelier The documentary features expert voices in art, history, and culture, including musician Jackson Browne and Chilean artist Rene Castro, who provide context and analysis.
50/100 A real estate friend lets a couple use a gorgeous home, in the hills of El Dorado County, California, for a weekend getaway. On the way, a minor altercation at a gas station turns into an all out siege. I really wanted to like this film but there's just nothing new here ...and what there is isn't particularly good. They spent far too much time pandering to our emotions and forcing the personal lives of the protagonists down our throat with hugs and giggles and personal stuff that wasn't really necessary leaving little room for some good thrills. Marginally entertaining. -- DrNostromo.com
