This is an interpretation of a memory the director had when she read the book as a teenager. She deliberately shifted into fantasy, away from the source material. (Which is also messed up. So many coming on here shocked as though the book, also, isn’t disturbing.) I thought it was brilliant. Intense, dark, but also, utterly, devastatingly gorgeous. Not a blueprint to live your life, but a study in obsessive love.

It’s a story about how silence can destroy a relationship even after 30 years.
There are so many interesting themes in this movie…I didn’t find it depressing.It’s a realistic portrayal of what happens when we can’t deal effectively with things that are bothering us.The torment being felt by the couple was obvious even though to the outside world it would appear they had the perfectly “happy” long lasting marriage
The two main characters played their roles effectively and there was a lot of chemistry between them.
I am glad the ending didn’t wrap everything up with a neat little bow,but left room for a lot of hope.
Loved it!
The setting made you feel like you were right in the European city with them.

I've now seen it 3 times in IMAX. The sound and picture quality was amazing. Like being at a rock concert. Its the only movie I've seen were people are applauding in the theater.

After tragically losing a friend, 4 guys decide to go hiking in Northern Sweden. After entering a forest, in an attempt to find a shortcut, they find themselves having unexplained visions and being pursued by something malevolent and huge. Heard a lot of praise for this film so I probably went into it with my expectations to high. Struck me as a pretty run-of-the-mill "people being hunted by a monster" film with no real surprises although it's done quite effectively. The monster, however, was some of the most grotesque nightmare fuel I've seen in a while. Worth watching. -- DrNostromo.com
