    One Battle After Another

"Kinetic" is the phenomenological term for high-action warfare like that in Iraq. Director Paul Thomas Anderson has assembled a wonderful team of actors and given audiences a very kinetic, often loud visual symphony on the dilemmas of "revolutionary" left. As sad and tragic as things may seem in the movie, it's really a comedy. That's its genius. I'm a Vietnam veteran peace-activist and, at times, I could not stop laughing. In the end, the film is a wholesome advocacy for responsible parenting.

He should thank Big Jay Oakerson every day for keeping him viable. He's a dumb person.

This movie is a hidden gem. It‘s short in runtime on paper, but it’s *very* dense - and quite intense at times. Having been bullied in school myself quite a bit, it hits plenty of de-javu moments. We follow Nora and her older brother Abel on their daily journey on the schoolyard, supposedly a place where you can play and relax, but also a place where hierarchies are established. Antoine is probably your best candidate for a frequent guest at the local jail, but he ranks high in the current pecking order to be the Alpha male. The interactions between Nora and Abel are heartbreaking, she wants to help, he wants to fit in. Sounds familiar? The adults are between helpless and ignorant (the latter especially the senior teacher), only Madame Agnès seems to really „get“ Nora. Abel takes some frightening turns, but in the very last scene I‘d say redeems himself. Excellent movie depicting the inner struggle between the animal within us and the compassion we should be able to feel to better each other.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1

Not going to waste much time on the first film in a series of three. One was enough for me. I caught the other two on television. Couldn't stand either of the leads in this film. Cedrick Diggory, er, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart play the "couple." They both ran the acting gauntlet from A to A-minus. P to the U.
