horrible - tried to be a Titanic and Gladiator mix - it went horribly wrong.

On my earlier review, I forgot to mention; the acting on this movie was really good. The 2 protagonists are a good match. The gladiators matches are, YES, bloody but so where the matches in the arenas of imperial Rome.

I used to live about 40 mi. from Mount Vesuvius before moving to Canada. Every time it made noise, our grounds would ramble and we would get a layer of ash everywhere. I have been in Pompeii (the excavation) many times. It is eerie walking the grounds already uncovered. About the movie....The special effects are amazing. I was disappointed this movie's script doesn't even touch upon the fact that Pompeii had become a city of corruption, a city of many sins, a city of perversions for the Roman elites. While watching this movie, I couldn't help but make comparisons to the Big Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah and other calamities that have plagued our planet throughout history. Neverthel

Not nearly as bad as some of the reviews out there. obviously the outcome is known yet the acting, story, and special effects were very enjoyable and entertaining. I go to the movies to be entertained and i wasn't disappointed. plenty of great gladiator combat action and battles (as opposed to the much overdone shootem up hero/military movies)...it even had a nice love story in the mix. was it the most awesome movie i've ever seen...no, yet it had everything that makes for an entertaining night out... my wife and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

The poster reads: No warning, no escape... OMG There was plenty of warning. And even in the movie they knew it was the mountain that was grumbling. Some did escape. Others were too stupid and stayed. But I guess the main stars stayed out of love..yep, no self preservation, because they liked each other. They could have escaped a couple times and been happy away from the volcano, even before they knew what was up with the mountain!! Idiots.

The good: The effects. The Bad: Everything else. From casting right down to the story and horses. Total Titanic rip off. Seriously exactly the same except the volcano is the new Titanic and the gladiator is the lower class Jack and the rich girl is the Rose of that year. I'm glad we won advance tix and did not have to waste money. Keiffer Sutherland tried a little English accent but once you got past that, he is always a good villain.
