Having grown up in the 70's this film not only flooded me with nostalgia but could have been a page out of my life. I had the Super 8 camera as a kid that me and my now deceased brother experimented with. It brought a tear to my eye. I was throughly entertained by this film, although the ending seemed abrupt. The boy confronting the alien and the transference of each other's loss and pain could have been shown more than it was - a quick scene of the boy and his mom and a quick scene of the alien and maybe his family would have tied it all in a nice, neat ending. We can only assume this is what happened. It would have had a more emotional punch. Overall tho I loved the movie.

One of the best movies I have ever seen!! They did a great job of incorporating many different genres in this film, especially humour since the story revolves around kids. Sooooo good and not your typical alien monster movie :)

Great acting from the kids, special effects were great. There were some really magical scenes that were brilliantly directed. The plot was underdeveloped and really simple though. The ending was really sappy and and predictable.I loved it except for the last few scenes.

AMAZING MOVIE!
I thought this movie wasn't going to be very good, but I went with my friends anyway. It was amazing...from the beginning to the end and every part in between! Everything that went into it was absolutely fantastic!

Someone asked if this was supposed to be a rebooted version of ET. No, it was not. Sure it was set around the same time (1979) but in no way was this even close. The child actors were good. I liked how they could vary their acting abilities for their homemade movie and the actual movie. Showed a lot of talent. The creature (if anyone noticed) was pretty similar to the multi-legged creature JJ Abrams had in Star Trek. Not much creativity there. he movie by not stretch should stay in number one spot. I was a little disappointed, but the story was great. The characters were great. This does not have the lasting appeal of other Spielberg-ish films or JJ's for that matter.

I thought the movie was going to be stupid.
the typical Alien invasion story.
I WAS WRONG - This is a great story first then a good action movie after. The investment in character development and story is excellent and the action then is even better.
Very entertaining - Someone mentioned it was similar to ET I sort of agree but it packs way better action.
