The story is somewhat hollow and my biggest issue is that the whales were difficult to distinguish, the characters were so similar in size and colour - not great. The kids I took to see it could not even remember the main character’s name right after the movie. It’s a beautiful movie with a fuzzy, weak storyline and characters.

Barely coherent story, less entertaining than a cardboard box.

I think the movie, albeit animated, was too violent to be rated as General. Most of the kids in the theatre left before the midway point. A mana losing her baby after delivery, vicious polar bear attacks, killer whale attacks, a Canada goose bird having her neck broken by a killer whale are some of the scenes in the movie.

This movie could not keep my son’s attention, or his Grandma’s and mine for that matter. While the art work and scenes with Northern Lights, Sunset to night, and sunrise were beautiful there was not enough action to keep our attention. There were too many themes that they tried to touch on which complicated the story, did not intertwine well, were too out of touch and confusing for children (the intended audience) and made the movie too long and drawn out. It also had zero comedy. It was bland and boring. The dialogue was also too complex for kids and boring. Sorry, visually stunning, but the story was horrible.

We took our gang of 3 - 5 year olds to see it this weekend. First off, the visual treatment of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the near-Arctic / iceberg area is beautiful throughout the film. The music and audio is also quite excellent, keeps you engaged in every scene. The kids did find it a bit scary, as the story revolves around a beluga who is constantly getting into dangerous situations and an evil Orca that makes his life difficult. The dubbing in English from the original French is "OK", but sometimes the dialogue seems forced. Overall, much, much better than the kids slop on YouTube or Netflix these days. We talked about it for days after the movie, definitely stuck with us.
