The message of love and friendship, a sense of family, is a nice overriding message that is so important in our society today. Love and caring is more important than accumulation of things and getting ahead.

As a prequel to the comic strip, it lacked the philosophical/moral depth - and the offhanded referrals to great scientific theories - but it made up for those aspects of the strip by developing the characters really well. And the animation [design and execution] was excellent. Plus, the added stuff during the closing credits was just as funny as the movie, itself.

My kids enjoyed it - I thought it had some humourous parts and a good message. But I compared it to shows like Shrek and Finding Nemo and thus rated it 3 stars.
