  The apex of Reagan-era fist-pumping fascist 80s cinema. Jingoistic nonsense plays its shabby story out like a video game and cheers loudly as the finale gives way to World War Three!

  This movie inspired more young men to join the US Navy than any of their advertisements ever did. Brilliant! To answer another commenter on here, Charlie (Kelly McGillis) is driving a Porsche Speedster when she and Maverick (Tom Cruise) are arguing.
