When Tom Mitchell (Steve Coogan) takes a teaching job in Argentina, his life changes forever. In his off time, Tom likes to travel around and explore his new surroundings. One of his expeditions takes him to a beach where he witnesses the horrifying scene of an oil spill that has taken the lives of many penguins.
Tom manages to save the life of one penguin and forms a bond with him. Tom takes him back to the school and soon comes to realize that this penguin has a real knack for making new friends and touching the lives of everyone around him, including Tom himself.
Based on the book by Tom Michell.
