Alpha, a troubled 13-year-old, lives with her single mother (Golshifteh Farahani) somewhere in coastal France. When a disease begins spreading, her mother, a doctor, starts treating patients who are mysteriously turning to stone. Meanwhile, Alpha gets a stick-and-poke tattoo that slowly becomes infected. The rebellious act sparks panic as her mother fears she may be infected with the disease too.
At school, Alpha endures bullying while secretly exploring a romance with her friend Adrien. Later, her uncle Amin moves in, reconnecting with Alpha while confronting his addiction issues. Past and present timelines intertwine, forcing the family to confront themselves in the face of the looming contagious danger.
