Suburban dad Craig Waterman (Tim Robinson) works at a public relations firm. His wife Tami (Kate Mara) runs a florist shop and they have a teenage son, Steven (Jack Dylan Grazer). Craig feels like something is missing from his life — an adult male friend.
He decides to make friends with his charismatic new neighbor, Austin Carmichael (Paul Rudd), who's a local TV weatherman. Austin is charming and funny, so Craig, who tends to be more awkward, hangs around whenever he spots Austin, which gets to be a bit much for Austin.
Austin finally invites Craig to join him for a guys night out with his friends, but the evening turns into a disaster.
