Afghanistan, printemps 2002. Forcée de se marier à un homme de 65 ans, Zarmina, 15 ans, fuit son pays pour Montréal, mais sa liberté a un prix: sa fille devra un jour épouser son cousin resté à Kaboul. Quinze ans plus tard, le pacte refait surface. Zarmina refuse le même destin pour sa fille. Sa lutte pour sa liberté se transforme en tragédie.
