Journal de France Overview

Claudine Nougaret, who worked as a sound engineer for her longtime companion Raymond Depardon on the 1987 film Urgences, spent six years creating this biographical portrait of the famous French filmmaker. The film shows him on a road trip shooting various landscapes, interspersed with a variety of deleted scenes from his films. Having backpacked around the world, including Venezuela, Israel, Czechoslovakia and Chad—where Depardon’s love of the desert developed—the septuagenarian now feels the need to explore his own country, which he’s featured in his social documentaries Modern Life, The 10th Judicial Court : Judicial Hearings and Délits flagrants.
