With their marriage of 12 years hanging by a thread, British doctor David Henninger (Ralph Fiennes) and his wife, American writer Jo Henninger (Jessica Chastain) go on vacation to the deserts of Morocco to visit their friend Richard (Matt Smith), who's hosting a weekend gathering with his boyfriend, Dally (Caleb Landry Jones).
As the couple drives through the night, David, who's had quite a bit to drink, hits a local boy, Driss (Omar Ghazaoui). When he's hit by their car, he's killed. The couple put his body in the car and continue on their journey. When they get to Richard's, he calls the authorities, who rule the death an accident.
It seems that David and Jo are in the clear, until the boy’s father (Ismael Kanater) demands that they travel to his town to help with the burial. They discover themselves in a world where their wealth and power won't protect them.
