A Walk in the Woods
trailer
Bill Bryson (Robert Redford) and his old friend Stephen Katz (Nick Nolte) start hiking the Appalachian Trail, starting from the state of Georgia and heading north. They have some difficulty getting used to their equipment and additionally, Bill realizes how unprepared Stephen - a crude, overweight, recovering alcoholic - is. Although they start out with loads of supplies and equipment, they soon discard much of it in an attempt to lighten their loads.
After they've gone what seems like miles and miles, they find out they're not that far after all. They begin to realize the trip might be too much for too aging men who are not avid hikers and they decide to skip a huge section of the trail, taking it up again further north.
Based on the 1998 book "A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail" by travel writer Bill Bryson.
